Vintage Gas Igniter

Image
Spark-L is the model for this vintage Milux brand gas igniter. According to my mum, she had been using this vintage gas igniter for the past 30 years and it is still working well despite being covered in brownish-red rust. Unlike other models, this is a friction operated type with kerosene filling inside. Newer models of gas igniter uses batteries, flints and fuses to light this pistol up. The operation mechanism is super simple, just pull the trigger with a finger and there you go. The length is 26 cm and have a width of 10 cm wide. This gas igniter is used for older cooking stove without the spark lightning mechanism like this one here in the photo above. Soon, this would become a forgettable item as gas stove are becoming rarer as new technology has surpassed this old fashion kind.

Vintage Butane Lamp

Image
According to my aunt, this butane lamp is often used at my grandmother's shop back in the 70s before long fluorescence tube were installed in various location in the shop. Another reason why my grandparents used this butane lamp, was because of convenience and also a spare light source in case of current breakdown. Besides the remaining lamp, there are also other remaining butane gas cylinder which are unused. These butane lamp have a needle tube underneath the burner, which functions to poke a hole in the gas cylinder for butane gas to flow upwards. Once the gas cylinder has been poked, the entire gas cylinder must be used up to it's emptiness before you can safely remove it. Below shows the image of the type of butane gas tank use for this butane lamp. Every single time you start a fire in the lamp, you must always replace the burn out wig inside the burner. Nowadays, those wig are very hard to be found as there are measurements to it, as different wig differs in ...

Vintage Miniature Gas Cylinder

Image
This is another variant of miniature gas cylinder as the center base is much wider and shorter as compared to the previous one which I shared about here . Most of these gas cylinders were used for steamboat cooking or even cooking on board the boat. For smaller gas cylinder, you will need a special gas regulator to get this item connected and working. I still cannot find the brand of this gas cylinder. If you ever came across this kind of miniature gas cylinder, do let me know in the comments section whats are the brands out there. I am taking a smart guess that the sticker on the gas cylinder had been peeled off. At the handle of the cylinder, there are some words and markings stamped on it. The words stamped on it are used as a reference to indicate the maximum and minimum pressure of the tank. The holes on the handle are also used for tying up the gas cylinder. Overall, the condition of the tank is quite good except that the brand is unknown. This item can be use a...

Vintage Gas Pipe Controller

Image
Here is a really old vintage gas pipe controller from the 80s. It is quite a hard to find piece although the condition isn't really that good. You can see a lot of covering of rust on the body of the controller. The brand of this pipe controller is Milux, which was founded in Malaysia back in 1977. Overall, this piece is worth collecting as a vintage item as controllers nowadays are build stronger with stainless steel. The olden days controller knob are made from brass and nowadays they are made from stainless steel. This controller is design in a way, where you can hooked it up on the wall.

Rare kerosene burner

Image
Found these very rare kerosene burner stand. This item is at least 40 years old where kerosene was quite popular back then. These burner can be also used like a stove too. The brand of this kerosene burner is Butterfly brand which still can be found in today's market. But this kind of burner became extinct already as kerosene under high pressure is very dangerous. There will be a nozzle at the bottom of the burner, where it is connected to a copper pipe that supplies liquid kerosene at high pressure. The copper pipe also couldn't be found anymore as it is no longer in production. The diameter of the hole of the copper pipe is about 3 to 5 mm thick. At the moment, I am still in a search for the copper pipe. The top part of the burner is made from copper and some parts are made from brass, whereas the base of the burner is made from iron. This kind of burner can be dismantle using a spanner and can be brought for servicing and cleaning. According to my dad...

Vintage Gas Gauge

Image
I got all these vintage gas meter from my aunt's gas shop back in a few months ago and decided to add these items into my vintage collection. You maybe asking why I decided to collect this kind of stuff besides other common vintage items like old phones, records and signage. This is because, all vintage collectors are different, and they do collect different things in their collection. For me, I am more towards old hardware collection, where I collect hardware items as I can easily get them from my relatives. Coming back to this, these meters are at least 30 plus years old. These meters are mostly used for high pressure gas tank and for commercial use only. This gauge were used for safety reasons to monitor the gas pressure. The brand for all these 3 gauges is Fisher brand. Fisher brand is still around in today's market and the brand is well known for it's supplies of lab equipment. At the back of the meter, there is some clear observations of rust. I am not sur...

Vintage Gas regulator

Image
As a vintage hardware collector, I do come across various vintage households hardware and most of them are cooking gas related. Today's sharing is about this vintage gas regulator which were commonly seen using in the 80s. It looks the same as the ones which you are currently using it now but it is actually different. The differences lies between the dimension of the tube fitting. These gas regulators are not centralized in terms of their fittings and the tube for it comes in various dimensions. In the past, people would buy these regulators which are matching to the brand of the gas which they are using. This is because each gas regulator fitting head on the gas cylinder is different. The one you see in the picture below is Kosan gas regulator and it is commonly use for old Mobil gas cylinders. That regulator can also be use for small vintage gas cylinder which I blog about too and you may check the post here , For the installation of these gas regulator, you will n...

Not many people had kept this because, the use of small gas cylinder have already vanish in the market. It took me a long time to find this stand to match it with my gas cylinder to make it a complete set. I found this lying in the shop's store room and it is fully covered with dust and spiderwebs.

Vintage small gas cylinder

Have you ever seen before a mini gas cylinder like this before ? Here is one of the rarest item that is passed down from my grandfather's time until today. Some countries have higher standard of regulations regarding about gas cylinder and some of this smaller baby cylinder didn't manage to get marketed in those stricter countries. The brand which I have is "lightning" brand which were made and fill in Malaysia. The cost of making these kind of small cylinders are more expensive as compared to making those larger ones. There are also labels with badge numbers, the weight of the cylin...

This item is one of the cutest vintage hardware item ever I collected so far. Ordered by my grandfather from China in the 1970s and resell them in my family gas store. My aunt recall that he use this mini stove to boil water or tea while working on his job. He use to boil water using this in front of the shop, where they use to stack up the gas cylinder. She remembered this because my grandfather didn't know that this act is very dangerous as there were many gas cylinder surrounding him. Lucky nothing bad happen during the time. Kerosen stove

Image
Vintage kerosene stoves are good collectible items and are very rare to come by these days as specially those in very good unused condition. Kerosene stove are popular back in the 60s and 70s where it is use as an alternative cooking appliances besides charcoal stove. When cooking using gas became popular in the 80s, kerosene stove and charcoal stove began to slowly extinct. The working mechanism of this kerosene stove is similar to the kerosene lamp. The liquid kerosene is draw from a tank and transfer up to the burner which is located at the top via a wick. This wick is normally made from a material which have high absorption like cotton. One must lit the wick in order to start the fire on the stove. Immediately after starting the fire, the liquid kerosene will then turn into vapour which soon burns which creates more flame. The lever which is located in the center functions to adjust the height of the wick by lowering it or raising it. When the lever is pushed al...
