Vintage Table Tennis Set

Image
One fun fact, in Malaysia and Singapore table tennis is also known as ping pong which is another name to call it. Ping Pong is a sport that is widely played among locals here. This is a vintage table tennis set kept by me throughout the time. It consist of 2 ping pong paddle and also the ping pong balls from the 80s. I also found the netting for the table tennis to my surprise but there isn't any ping pong table left for me to play. As my parents got rid of it away long time ago.  The brand of the ping pong is Nittaku, a Japanese manufacturer which still produces table tennis equipment until today.  The brand of the paddle is Tamasu Butterfly brand which also produces other sports equipment as well. Tamasu Butterfly brand is founded in Japan and the model number for this paddle is 7301. To sum things up, it is indeed a good collectible set for those who loves sports and is willing to display them.

Vintage VCDs

Image
As a kid from the 90s, I grew up listening to all these children songs which are in VCD format. There were many beautiful children songs that I can remember playing it when I was a kid such as Popeye the sailor man, my little pony, long long ago and many more to be listed here. My time, I listen to songs from VCDs and cassette tapes. My parents even gave me a radio at the age of 6 just to play all these beautiful songs. Some of those VCDs don't have any video format in them and they are plain music CDs only. CDs that have video format would look something like this  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSjJFDDChpk . I wanted to show the actual format, but i realize that my CD player isn't working anymore.  For those CDs that have video format, I can clearly recall myself happily dancing along with the kids shown on the TV. These CDs really bring me back to those good memories of mine. How I wish I could be a kid again and can travel back in time to enjoy those precious moments a

Vintage 90s landline telephone

Image
Here is a small collection of vintage 90s landline Malaysia telephone. Telekom Malaysia is Malaysia national telco for landline all the time.    These phones were from Telekom Malaysia and each of them were built with their own unique serial number.  Below are some of the models and variants of Telekom Malaysia landline phone from the 90s. When I see all these old telephones, it reminds me about my past as I have a lot of happy moments with this telephone. I remember when I was young, I will always play with the curled rubber insulated telephone wires. These wires will keep all my boredom away as I will spend most of my time trying to straighten the curled wires which turns out to curled back again. Another interesting fact about these old telephones is that it doesn't have any display to show who the caller is. We always have that exciting hope hoping that when the phone rings, that call is from our girlfriends or boyfriends or even our BFF call. Then we will spend like 30 mi

Vintage Almond Powder Tin

Image
My grandmother loves almond powder drink the most and she still drinks it until today. This almond powder is from MR San & Co Trademark and produced under the company M. P. San & Company LTD. This tin looks like those Dutch lady milk kinds. At first when I found it, I thought it was Dutch lady milk brand,, but it isn't. This almond powder is made in Hong Kong back in the 60s and 70s era. Previously, this tin wasn't well kept as it was used to keep screws and nails by my grandfather. Surprisingly, the paper printed label is still attached well to the tin. The cap of the tin is heavily rusted and there were pitted spots on it. To prevent further rusting, I applied a thin layer of WD-40 on top of the cap of the tin. This tin will be then kept in a zip-lock bag with a few bags of silica gels are being placed inside them.  This is the only powder drink tin which I have kept so far in my collection and I plan to expand it as time goes by.

Vintage Thailand Dancing Doll

Image
Another souvenir bought by my aunt in her trip to Thailand back in 1968. This kind of doll were commonly found and sold in tourist hotspot across Thailand. This doll is a good souvenir item to remember about Thailand, with its rich history and culture. This doll also pictures the traditional clothing for Thai ladies. The doll is also supported by a 5.5 cm length wooden base as it stands at a height of 18 cm. Overall, is indeed a very beautiful piece here for a doll collection.

Vintage Brylcreem container

Image
Ever wonder, how does old Brylcreem or hair cream container looks like in the past 30 years ?? Well here is an example of one old vintage container from the early 80s.  Brylcream is one of the famous hair styling gel brand of all times. If you ever seen those glass kind of Brylcream container of the past, it is extremely valuable and it is worth keeping them. These plastic ones are less rare, but they are made mostly for Asian Market like Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. Brylcreem in the past comes in 2 different sizes too. These Brylcreem are made in Selangor, Malaysia and the production is ongoing and are still supplying their products to the local markets. These packaging design of the Brylcreem container lasted until the mid 90s, before another design came and overtook the previous one. What attracts me the most is that, there are Chinese words printed on the container itself.

Oriental Telephone and Electric Receipt

Image
To obtain a telephone to be installed in a shophouse after world war 2, you had to go through many procedures such as paying rent for the telephone, payment for wire installation and also payment of subscription for the first year. Oriental Telephone and Electric is the only company in Malaya that provide electricity and telephone services and are managed by the Englishman. After the war in 1947, many shophouses and residence decided to obtain a landline phone for calling purpose and there was a lot of people applying for it back then. The charging rate of using the telephone service during 1947 to 1957 is 175 Malaya dollars for a business unit and 140 Malaya dollars for a residence unit and this chargers are based on per annum basis. The charging rate increased from 1st July 1958 with a new rate of 250 Malayan dollars and 180 Malayan dollars per annum for business unit and residence unit respectively. Back then, it was really expensive and not many people could afford to have a landli

Vintage plastic sockets

Image
Plastic sockets like these are one of its kind as it is made specially to be attached on wood bases. These sockets are commonly found in old wooden shop houses and some older homes built in the 70s and earlier. These sockets are actually successor to its predecessor, the bakelite sockets. They are made available in white colour which are more clearer to be seen at night unlike those black bakelite switches and sockets. My dad told me a joke that when a mosquito land on those black bakelite sockets and switches, you are unable to see those flying creatures hiding in your house. These plastic sockets are also much stronger too as it won't break that easy when you dropped it. But over time, yellowish aging spots will start to appear on those plastic sockets and heat will accelerate the yellowish stains to happen at a faster rate. One hack tool which you can use to polish these sockets is using toothpaste to make it white and shinny again. This socket can support up to 250 voltage and

How to handle a coin or a banknote without dirtying it ??

Image
Ever wonder how you could transport or move your uncirculated banknote or coin and avoid direct finger contact ?? Well this is how, you can do so using a flat mouth tweezer. It is easy, just pick them up using this tweezer and move them carefully into the plastic sheet. You can repeat the same method for coins too.  Just don't press the tweezer too hard on the banknote or not it will leave a damage mark on it. I would want to recommend you all to use this tweezer because it perfectly grip the banknote and coin very well. This tweezer comes with a plastic protection for the tip too.

Vintage Medicine Pot

Image
I always remember that my grandmother would boil traditional Chinese medicine inside this little pot here and put it over the charcoal stove.  This pot is so small that it can nicely fit in 1 can of mushroom soup inside it. The diameter of the pot is about 15 cm and it is super small.  Besides that, using this pot can be quite troublesome too, as you might need a special grill, if you want to use this kind of pot to place over the normal gas stove as chances of it getting stuck is high. It is made from Aluminum and the handle is made from iron painted black in colour. Overall, it is a good display piece for people who wants to collect this item for kitchen or cafe decorations.
