Why I started my Ang Bao collection in 2008?

A few months ago, I shared about my Ang Bao collections and now you may be wandering why 2008 the year where I first started collection of red packets? The reason is because 2008 was the year of the rat and this links to my favourite cartoon at that time which was Tom and Jerry that aired on Cartoon Network. I remember as a kid, I always catch every single episode of Tom and Jerry and didn't missed it. I was really crazy, when it comes to Tom and Jerry cartoons.

A few days before Chinese New Year, my parents and I were doing some shopping. When browsing through the lanes, I came across a pack of tissue boxes. That didn't caught my attention at all because it is just tissue boxes. When I passed by the shelf of tissue boxes, I saw the image of Tom and Jerry printed on the red packets which were pack inside the transparent plastic film of the tissue boxes.

I got so happy and decided to convince my mum to buy those tissues because of the free Tom and Jerry. HEHEHE, what a crazy fan of Tom and Jerry am I. The red packets really caught my attention a lot as I found it very beautiful and decided to collect them. I began to observed the unique features of the red packets as the material used was metalized plastic. Besides that, it is very rare to see cartoon characters dress in traditional culture costumes.

The Tom and Jerry red packets made a head start for me for collecting more beautiful red packets.

Also it is because rat was the first animal in the Chinese Lunar year cycle. That means I could start my collections of red packets from 2008 until 2019 for a full set of zodiac animals.
