Why I started my Ang Bao collection in 2008?

Image
A few months ago, I shared about my Ang Bao collections and now you may be wandering why 2008 the year where I first started collection of red packets? The reason is because 2008 was the year of the rat and this links to my favourite cartoon at that time which was Tom and Jerry that aired on Cartoon Network. I remember as a kid, I always catch every single episode of Tom and Jerry and didn't missed it. I was really crazy, when it comes to Tom and Jerry cartoons. A few days before Chinese New Year, my parents and I were doing some shopping. When browsing through the lanes, I came across a pack of tissue boxes. That didn't caught my attention at all because it is just tissue boxes. When I passed by the shelf of tissue boxes, I saw the image of Tom and Jerry printed on the red packets which were pack inside the transparent plastic film of the tissue boxes. I got so happy and decided to convince my mum to buy those tissues because of the free Tom and Jerry. HEHEHE, what a cr

Newer rice bags made from stronger nylon polyethene material which are a mixture of plastics to give it a rigidity strength. These rice bags are already 30 to 40 years old and it is still great intact.

Beautiful Collection of Enamel Trays

Image
These Enamel trays are from the 60s and it is used by my great grandmother back then. Enamel tray do come in many beautiful design and colours. Most of these trays are made in China and on some rare cases, it is made in Japan. It is really good to display these kind of enamel trays as a decorative item too. Seeing these kind of enamel trays really brings me back to me as a young boy who enjoys kueh serve using these trays.  The surface of these enamel plates are anti sticking and they can be clean off very easy, which are one thing I like most about these enamel plates.

Vintage rice sampling tool

Image
Here is an old school rice sampling tool. It has been kept by my great grandmother for more than 60 years already. According to my mum, she told me that my great grandmother will use this tool to help check whether is there any rice bugs or impurities inside the rice before purchasing them in bulk. My great grandmother used to buy rice in 30 kilograms sacks and store them up as there were many people living under one roof in the past. There will always be a time where my great grandmother would buy rice in huge amounts without fail and that is during Chinese New Year as hundreds of my relatives will come back fro all over the world and celebrate it together with great grandmother.  This rice sampling tool is made out of iron and have a measurement of 23 cm in length. According to many vintage collectors, this is a rare tool and it is worth keeping it.

Vintage rice basket

One of the thing that my grandma still keep until today, is these kind of basket design to hold rice for drying after soaking and washing them. It is common household item used in the 60s and the 70s. My grandma bought quite a number of these kind of basket back in the past as there are many relatives living under one roof and she needs to cook rice for the whole family. This basket is made from rattan and the quality of the rattan is still very lasting and high quality despite its old age.  However, the colour of the rattan had also changed and became darker Overall, these baskets can be use for decorative purposes like a fruit basket or a flower basket.

The top of the lid is made from plastic bearing the nestle word logo. Overall, this glass container may look just an ordinarily container for some of you, but in fact this is a rare collectible actually. Vintage NEMC fan

This is a NEMC brand fan which is commonly used  in the household of Malaysia houses back in the 70s and the 80s. NEMC fan are much cheaper as compared with other ceiling fan brand like Mitsubishi, KDK and National. This brand isn't rare at all as NEMC fans are all made in Malaysia in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan state which is almost an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur city. This is a 60-inch (152 cm) diameter fan and it supports up to 5 speed. The cool air is generated by a 90-watt motor. Too bad, I didn't have much details regarding this fan as my aunt can't recall the information about this fan as it was installed in her shop many decades ago. This fan have been coated with a layer of green colour paint due to the ever comeback of rust back then. Collecting old fan can be troublesome as you will need to change the bearing in the motor from time to time. The heating up of motor for old model fan like this is very common back then as the blades of the fan are extra heavy
