Old TV Collection

How many of you guys out there are still keep your old television set ?

Now it is very rare to find old TV collectors out there. Collecting old TV requires a lot of display
space. Also due to digitization of televisions, many users will want to switch their old television
for newer ones to receive better and clearer images. In Singapore, the TV broadcast is now fully
digitized, whereas many parts of the world are still making effort to fully digitized their TV
broadcasting.

Well for me, I still have these 2 old television set from the 80s, which was passed down from my
uncle.

The first was a Philips TV from the early 80s

The second was a Sharp TV from the late 80s

Both of these TV doesn’t have RCA connector ( 3 coloured wires ). Which means you cannot
connect the TV to any set up box, VHS player, VCD or DVD player. The signal received is either
from the antenna of the television or the antenna of your home but normally it is from the antenna
of your home. But if you live in a low lying area or far from town, you will need a higher house
antenna to receive better signals.

Besides that, the TVs is not remote controllable. Means you have to change the TV channel manually by adjusting the switch on the TV. Due to the different frequency of the channel, some channel will be in loud sound and some in low sound and some will be brighter than the other. It is very common to people in the past, who done a lot of adjustments in order to get a better view and sound of the show.

The casing of TVs before the early 80s, were made from wood which can be used to match your
furniture style.

Old TV also have many problems too !!

One of the main problem is the swelling up of the capacitor. Once the capacitor swelled up, you will need to buy a new capacitor to replace the old ones. A capacitor for an old TV will cost
about 7 - 39 USD depending on the type of TV. Also, the spare parts for the TV are also very hard
to find and expensive. In that case, most collectors would not repair the TV, they will just use those
TV as a display item.
